About the Film:

A suicidal nine – year old boy struggling with his gender identity crosses paths with an unraveling but lovable Drag Queen.


 

Director Biography:

Fia Perera is an award winning director and writer who has pulled from years of experience as an actor in front of the camera to hone her skills behind the camera as a director. Fia has appeared in numerous comedy clubs throughout the country as well as top clubs in NYC and LA such as The Improv, Comedy Store, Caroline’s, Gotham, Ice House and Joe’s Pub to name a few. She has appeared in films with Harrison Ford and Ashley Judd and has written over fifteen plays produced off Broadway in NYC in venues such as The Labyrinth Theatre Company and Don’t Tell Mama’s. In LA her work was produced at the HBO Workspace, Hyperion Theatre, Comedy Central Stage and Hudson Theatre to sold out crowds and critical acclaim. She won both a Kids First and Telly award for her animated kids’ show, Seafun For Kids and has written and produced several TV series including, Inappropriate Fairy Tales, Ghost Shrink as well as the award winning TV pilot “Do The Voice”. In January 2019, Fia produced and directed the hilarious comedy pilot “Baby Steps”. Fia has also scribed several feature films and TV projects that are in various stages of development. Mermaid is a passion piece that Fia is deeply committed to making as a feature film in order to help create change within a conservative demographic that have been intolerant and fearful of the LGBTQ community.
